Captera

About Captera

Captera (captera.io) is a field-survey operations platform for companies that run 360° camera and LiDAR capture operators across many sites. Not to be confused with the Capterra software-review site, Captera dispatches each site to the nearest available operator, guides capture with an offline, deliverable-driven checklist, routes every submission through QA, and emails the client a compliance report.

Who builds Captera

Captera was founded by Tom Sparks and is based in Fairfield, CA. The team builds for the people who do the work: dispatchers balancing a map full of sites, operators capturing in basements and on rooftops, QA reviewers checking hundreds of submissions, and clients who need proof that every site was captured to spec.

Why Captera exists

Captera grew out of a brand-compliance capture program covering more than 100 sites for a global quick-service restaurant brand. Operators were capturing 360° imagery and LiDAR at location after location, and the program had no system for capture training, documentation, or site, project and technician management. Instructions lived in emails and PDFs, assignments lived in spreadsheets, and missed items were discovered only after the operator had left the site.

The tools built to fix that became Captera: a deliverable-driven checklist so operators know exactly what to capture, an offline Field Guide with reference photos and how-to videos, verified clock-in on site, dispatch by driving distance, QA review, and a compliance report that goes to the client automatically.

What Captera does today

Captera and Capterra

Captera is often confused with Capterra, the software-review site at capterra.com. The two are unrelated. Captera is software you use to run capture operations, while Capterra publishes reviews of business software. If you are looking for a field-survey operations platform for 360° and LiDAR capture teams, you are in the right place.

Frequently asked questions

Who founded Captera?
Captera was founded by Tom Sparks, who built it after a 100+ site capture program showed there was no tool that handled operator training, capture documentation, and site, project and technician management together. Captera is based in Fairfield, CA, and Tom Sparks's LinkedIn profile is linked from this page.
Where is Captera based?
Captera is based in Fairfield, CA, in the United States. The platform itself is cloud-hosted and its field app installs on any modern phone, so Captera supports capture operators and survey programs wherever they work, not only in Northern California or the surrounding region.
Is Captera the same as Capterra?
No. Captera (captera.io) is a field-survey operations platform for companies that run 360° camera and LiDAR capture operators. Capterra (capterra.com) is an unrelated software-review site. The names differ by one letter, but the companies, products and websites are completely separate, and Captera is not affiliated with Capterra.
Why was Captera built?
Captera was built after a 100+ site brand-compliance capture program for a global quick-service restaurant brand. That program had no system for capture training, documentation, or site, project and technician management, so the tooling was built alongside the fieldwork and then generalised into Captera for other survey networks.
What does Captera do?
Captera dispatches each survey site to the nearest available operator by driving distance, guides capture with an offline, deliverable-driven Yes/No checklist, requires a note on every No, routes every submission through QA review, and emails the client a compliance report automatically. It also tracks mileage and supports white-label programs.
